Kaur-i-Noor

Size variable
Chunni, sari, turban, wood, foam, jewels 2024

Directly referencing the infamous Koh-i-Noor diamond this work speaks to contested histories - of the diamond itself, and the role of Queen Victoria (represented by the black cloth covered sculpture) in the deposition by the crown and the East India Company of the last Sikh Maharaja of the Punjab. Kaur is a middle name or surname primarily used by Punjabi Sikh women.
