The Golden Temple

2m x 2m
Thread, braid, steel, wood, dupatta 2017-2019

The Golden Temple inspired by the iconic Golden Temple in Amritsar, presents and explores some elements surrounding the traditional universal ceremony of Indian or British Indian Sikh marriages, which has not altered even with the global migration of the Sikhs. The religious marriage ceremony known as the Anand Karaj meaning ‘blissful union’ takes place in a Gurdwara. The ceremony is centred around the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book. Four Lavan (Sikh hymns) are sung by the granthis (priests). Upon each Lavan, the bridegroom leads the bride around the Guru Granth Sahib.
